Character (Original Universe)
Name: Charlotte Aulin
Age: 16
Gender: BEAUTIFUL GIRL (female)
Canon: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Canon Point: Post-game
History: Her very, very short personal history can be found here. Portrait of Ruin's story can be found here
Personality: At first glance, Charlotte may seem like merely a booksmart teenager; it wouldn't be out of place to find her nose stuck deep inside a musty old tome located in the church she belongs to. However, she's an incredibly talented witch, her name known even all the way out to rural churches in the countryside. And boy does she know it. If you can't stand her rubbing your nose in her self praise of her talents on a semi-regular basis, you better get away, fast! Charlotte enjoys flattery (regardless of whether it's with regards to her skills, looks, or personality) and will even gloat about it a little to anyone who'll listen on occasion. She takes pride in her abilities, and isn't afraid to correct people when they claim results were a team effort, when in reality it was her and her magic that did the heavy lifting. As a result of her smarts, talents, and successes, Charlotte practically radiates confidence and high-self esteem; she knows that anything she sets her mind out to do, she can and will be able to do it. But, even though she knows she's talented, she isn't cocky; Charlotte knows she has weaknesses. Charlotte values preparation in order to counter her weaknesses, doing her research before jumping into the unknown; after all, knowledge is power. Thus, while she's more than capable of going adventuring on her own, she'd rather have someone capable along to watch her back and cover her weaknesses.
Some people might not like her attitude, and that's fine by her; if you're rude to her, she'll be rude right back. But, at the very least, she tries to be polite and respectful to strangers on first meeting. And to people who stick around long enough to be her friend? She trusts them and won't be afraid to stick up for them... even if she can be brutally honest about their shortcomings in the same breath. Still, she does genuinely care for her friends, and will show concern over them when they're not behaving as they normally are, even if she sometimes sticks her foot in her mouth by bringing up sore topics.
However, if there's one thing that really annoys her, it's people treating her like a child in spite of her talents, whether it's friends or strangers making the comments. Talking down at her or commenting about her age is a surefire way to get her annoyed, resulting in huffiness and rude behaviour. Additionally, because she likes attention, she also dislikes being ignored, tying back to her feelings that she's being treated like a kid. Which, incidentally, is exactly how you get her to act just as immaturely as one.
Luckily for everyone, Charlotte is the kind of witch who's happy to help others. Growing up as a member of the Church, part of her duty is to aid those less fortunate, though often her contribution to the betterment of society is teaming up with Jonathan, her childhood friend and partner, to take down the forces of darkness. While Charlotte is sympathetic to peoples' plights and tries to help as much as she can, that doesn't mean she is willing to allow people to take advantage of her good will; she will definitely keep an eye on people she perceives as shifty to make sure they don't try to pull anything tricky. She has absolutely no qualms in expressing her displeasure, often being quite blunt and to the point. That said, she isn't fond of lying and will often tell the truth, even if it means someone's pride gets hurt. However, if the consequences are more serious than mere pride, like a dead man's wish for her not to inform his daughters of what happened to him, the secret will die with her.
Additionally, she's observant in battle, tending to try to think things through rather than jump straight in. She's the analyser, and while not really a tactician per se, she thinks on her feet and often keeps a look out for enemy weaknesses if she doesn't already know it from her vast wealth of bookish knowledge. When she's out on the battlefield, she focuses on getting the job done and it will be done... even if it means fighting a floating ball of dead human corpses with tentacles, even admonishing people who get distracted by how gross that is. But her powers of observation don't just apply in battle; she's sharp, able to notice when there are flaws in someone's argument or when they're being not entirely truthful about a situation.
While her magic is powerful (Jonathan's completely false comments of it being weak aside!!), her physical strength leaves a lot to be desired. Her endurance and reflexes are quite good, having been on many successful missions with Jonathan, but ask her to push aside a stone statue, and she'll struggle with the task. Her role in combat tends to be a supporting role, preferring to blast enemies from a range or enhance the abilities of her partner. She's generally able to keep a cool head, not rising to anger even when her enemy mocks her if she believes the situation is dangerous. That said, because she's so used to being prepared, when she gets completely surprised or she's in a combat situation where the enemy is too fast for her to respond properly, Charlotte will quickly lose her cool, becoming flustered and off balance, resulting in her having difficulties in refocusing. Luckily for her, she can be snapped back to reality if she has someone along to get her back on track.
In short, Charlotte is a smart and talented young lady who has amazing self-confidence. Just don't call her a kid; you might end up getting smacked by a book.

Mognet Sample: Greetings fellow Heroes of Light,
My name is Charlotte Aulin. If your moogle is anything like mine, you probably didn't get many detailed answers to what being a Hero of Light means, or why we in particular were chosen. I don't think we're going to learn much more from the moogles.
According to a book in the library, there's an ancient cave east of Aqures Ixen with a room containing an inscription about the Heroes of Light. I intend to investigate it and find some answers, but I'm looking for a partner who can complement my abilities to accompany me. I'm a Red Mage and Scholar, so I'm talented in both attack and healing magic, and can analyse enemy strengths and weaknesses. I have plenty of experience fighting monsters where I'm from, so it shouldn't be much trouble.
Interested? Send a mail through your moogle and I'll meet you by the statue at the centre of the 13th district when you're ready.
